2023 Gamay

Varietal: 100% Gamay

Vineyard: Highlands Ranch

Barrel Program: 100% Neutral French Oak

Cases Produced: 150

Winemaking: Upon harvest, the grapes entered the winery at 24.5 Brix and 3.2pH. They were gently placed into the tank as whole clusters to allow carbonic fermentation (in the absence of oxygen). Native yeasts completed the fermentation in just 10 days. The Gamay was then pressed into 100% Neutral Oak barrels, where it aged for 7 months before being bottled in May of the following year.

Notes: This wine showcases exotic spices like coriander, complemented by hints of candied orange rind. It is lush and smooth on the palate, yet maintains a crisp acidity at its core, keeping it fresh and invigorating. Enjoy this bottle on a warm day, paired with food, for a delicate yet flavorful experience.

Notes: Bing cherries, dried herbs with a floral pop.  This wine looks light to the eye but is weighty and viscous on the palate.  Enjoy this wine with salmon, poultry and pasta. But for real wine-food love, pair with a triple cream Brie!

2022 Pinot - Escolle SLH

Varietal: 100% Pinot; 943 Clone and Clone Pom 4-KW

Vintage: 2022

Vineyard: Escolle and KW Vineyards, Santa Lucia Highlands

Barrel Program: 30% new French oak; 60% Puncheons, 40% 60 gallon barrels

Cases Produced: 175

Winemaking: Escolle: 20% whole cluster; KW: 100% destemmed. Gentle pump overs and punchdowns for 14 days and pressed directly to barrel.

Finished wine: 13.7%

Time in Barrel: 10 months

Brix at Harvest: 23.6

Finished ph: 3.4

Notes: Bright bing cherry with subtle hints of toast allure you into the glass. Palate is broad, rich and pleasurable. The finish is long and lingering. This elegant expression of a low alcohol Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot is testament to this great region. This wine will age gracefully for a decade or more but drinks playfully and fruit forward now.

2021 Malbec

Notes: Enticing aromas of oliliberry pie, citrus zest, and a hint of cacao. Abundant blue and purple fruit alongside velvety plum, all enhanced by toasty oak. While Malbec's big fruit often shines in blends, it offers a delightful experience on it own!

2021 Grenache/Syrah Cote du Denis

Varietal: 52% Grenache, 48% Syrah

Vintage: 2021

Vineyard: Grenache is from Arroyo Seco and the Syrah is from Tondre Vineyard, SLH

Barrel Program: 40% New French Oak, 60% Neutral French Oak

Time in Bottle: 18 months

Winemaking: The Syrah and Grenache were harvested, fermented, pressed and aged in barrel separately for 16 months.The Syrah was 100% whole cluster fermented. The Grenache was 30% whole cluster fermented. At bottling we blended the two lots together and let them age in bottle for an additional 16 months.

2022 Petite Sangio

Varietal: 42% Petite Sirah, 58% Sangiovese

Vineyard: Petite Sirah: Parvannae Vineyard, Paso Robles; Sangiovese: Gemelli Vineyard, San Benito County

Barrel Program: Petite Sirah: 1 Puncheon, second use Hungarian oak; Sangiovese: 3 neutral barrels

Time in Bottle: 18 months

Winemaking: Petite Sirah and Sangiovese were fermented seperately, barrel selections were based on blending trials to get the wood to fruit balance correct.

Brix at Harvest: Petite Sirah: 23; Sangiovese: 26

Notes: Aromas of strawberry candy, zesty tamarind, and black pepper spice!

Barrel Program: 15% new Hungarian puncheons (Trust Cooperage)

Winemaking: Daily gentle punch downs during cold soak, fermentation and maceration lasted for 14 days before pressed to barrel. 100% destemmed.

Finished wine: 14.5% alc

Time in Barrel: 18 months

Notes: Juicy, fresh strawberries with a hint of woodsy vanilla from the oak. This wine is smooth and enjoyable now, but if cellared, the bright fruit will mellow, allowing the herbs and spices to emerge, making it a perfect match for food.

2020 Petite Sirah

Varietal: 100% Petite Sirah

Vineyard: Machado Creek Vineyard, Santa Clara Valley

Barrel Program: 35% New French Oak, the rest Neutral

Winemaking: Gently destemmed, pumped over first 1/3 of fermentation. 14 days in the fermentor and pressed when the tannins have just begun to soften and coat the whole mouth.

Finished ph: 3.68 ph

Notes: Boysenberry, root beer, peachy aromatics. Dense chewy tannins, fruit is expressive yet tamed by the dark brooding nature of this varietal. Pretty little spice and long textured finish. This is our work horse wine, every day red wine that pleases with every sip. This is our 11th year working and farming at Machado Creek Vineyard, this block is all head trained (meaning no wires) and leads to a really dynamic expressive fruit.

Notes: Aromatics of white flowers, crushed earth, cinnamon, niçoise olive, subtle brine to those olives! Notes of concentrated black currant, orange oil, delicate tannins, and a bright pop of acidity on the palate. Finishes clean, long,and bright!
